Hi, i would look to buy a gaming computer that i can also use for school type of stuff. My dad wants to buy something from a company but i want to get something good because he has no clue about modern technology and stuff. I dont have very much knowledge in buying a good computer eather. Could someone help me find a gaming computer / work computer for around the price of $500. That would be great! I can be lower than 500 to.

unrealistic expectations.

if you wanted a gaming system to play wolfenstein 3d for 500 bucks you could do it, but i doubt you'll be playing far cry 64bit for 500 bucks.

counter strike, or counter strike source?

Halo might be a problem because its not very well optomized.

I play on high at 1024x 768 and still get slowdown in some areas

AMD athlon xp 2600 (oc'd to 2800)
768mb ram
geforce 6800

lol, far cry, half life 2, and battlefield 2 run better than halo

thats $550 w/o tax, you would still need to spend $100-$200 on a new video card to install in it, and it would be recommended that you buy a new power supply for $40 or so, and another 512 mb RAM for another $50 or so.

Or you could see if a friend or someone would build this for you:

$526 total and $506 after rebate.

It's...an EMachine...meh...

The fact that most of the new EMachines I've taken apart use Powmax PSUs is enough of a reason to stay away from them...
