I mean if you could find a Q9550 cheap that'd be an ok bump from what you have now just don't expect miracles. By cheap I mean like 20 pounds, which in USD is like 35 bucks and even I wouldn't spend that much on such an old CPU. If money is an issue you could look at used stuff. The 2nd to 4th gen i5s platforms over here usually go pretty cheap (i5 2000-4000s). Just make sure you get board and RAM as a package to make sure it's all compatible.
