i'd pretty much say you got a dead computer now.. you can't really do anything to it... may i suggest my choice of parts again??? just choose yourself a nice looking case, and grab urself a copy of windows xp and you could be all set with that set up... and if thats too much of a hastle... then i guess you could just buy that other computer that you mentioned, seeing as you won't really be gaming or anything

or if you want, you can try out the system trotter recommended i should build for my dad
