Hi i am using an MSI 8 XTREME series motherboard with Nvidia nforce 2 chipset and an AMD Athlon 2500+ processor ( 1.8 Ghz)
I am looking to upgrade my operating memory. I know i use DDR 333 (pc2700) memory but i need to know what the maximum memory i can upgrade to and whether i need high or low density memory sticks.
I currently have a 256MB and a 512MB stick and was thinking of buying a 1GB stick to go with them.
Any help or advice on this would be gratefully appreciated as i am new to building/upgrading.
Many thanks,
Wolfy

Could you be more specific on the mobo odel number? A quick search of MSI's site for "nForce2" yielded three mobos, all of which can handle up to 3gig of RAM.

All of them have this note regarding memory:
"NOTE: nForce2 does not support x4 memory for 1GB but it could support other density of dram chip such as x 8, x16"

You can upgrade to any DDR RAM. A slower speed than what you have will cause the motherboard to downclock your current RAM. Faster RAM will be downclocked to the speed of your current RAM.
