Help me put together a new PC

Hey guys

Just got a nice little bonus at the end of the year, and I want to buy my kids a new computer. I have a vague idea of what kind of stuff they want in that thing, but I'm not really all that knowledgable in the latest computer tech. So if you fellas can help out a guy and put together a few systems within a reasonable price range ($1500-$1600) I'd really upreciate it.

They want a gaming PC. They've been bugging me to get one with GeForce 7800 video card. I've read up on that (and more importantly looked up the prices) those things seem pretty expensive, but they seem to vary in price anywhere from $300 to over $500 so I don't know if that would fit into the computer and still have all the other good stuff within my price range, but if you can fit it in, my kids will be really happy (but if you can't they'll settle for a lesser one

Anyways, by put together a few systems, I mean like using the customize option like the ones dell.com have, but I mean you don't have to use dell whatever you guys think is the best.

Building it yourself is the best and cheapest way to do it. If you are willing to try that I will select out the parts for you from newegg. That budget will get you a pretty nice system. Do u have a monitor or anything already?

Well, I wouldn't even want to attempt building a PC myself. Have never so much as changed a screw in one. Don't even really have time to learn either.

I tried going to monarchcomputers.com to build one based on the parts you guys suggesting here, but alot of the parts you listed don't show up there in the drop down windows, plus there are a ton of stuff that I don't even know if they are neede or not. I tried to play around there to customize a system myself, but I don't know how to get it here for you guys to tell me that all the stuff will work, since linking it will only take you to the default setting and not the one I customized.

Oh btw I don't need a monitor I can use the one from the old PC (the monitor itself is not old)

do you know anyone that can assemble computers? you can take the components to a PC shop & pay for them to assemble it.
Almost EVERYBODY has a computer nerd on their block

I used the "monarch nemisis custom sli" to build this (although i chose a non-sli board). total came to $1512, plus shipping and maybe building charge....hope that helps.
