Okay, so my computer has:

Two DVD burners, seemingly attached with a IDE Ribbon Cable.

A 750 Zip Drive, seemingly attached with a IDE Ribbon Cable.

A Floppy Drive, attached with what I would assume with be a Floppy Cable.

... and a 160GB HDD, attached with what looks like a SATA Cable (I bought it 4 years ago, so I didn't think it would have SATA, but the connection is definitely not a ribbon cable)

I want to know what is the best way to attach a 20GB IDE HDD that a friend is giving me for free. It looks like my Zip Drive cable has three connections, one to the Motherboard, one to the Zip Drive, and one unused.

Would it be okay to attach the HDD to the same cable as the Zip Drive?

Would would you guys recommend in this situation?

The best place would be at the end of the primary ide cable set as master there with the zip drive being set as a slave. The optical drives are pretty better left the way they are if they are already in use on the second ide cable.

Since you are already planning to run ubuntu on the small ide drive instead of that being a storage drive only this would be one idea. Just note that Windows won't be able to see the smaller drive since it will be mainly Linux except for the small NTFS parrtition you have planned for the paging file.
