I'd say go for a dual core like the e8500 @ 3.15Ghz. Its also a 45nm chip.

New q6600s suck, and your games don't need quads. I foud my stock q6600 sluggish, and needed to be oc'd to see the peppiness.

He can go with an E8400 and save a few bucks, if he got into overclocking, that would still be a fine processor.

True, save 30 buc ks there, than use the extrsa from the ram, ad stepup to a 4850 or 9800gt.
