Default Help building?

I am gonna build a computer, my mom is buying it for me for graduation.
I know very little about computers, so i need help picking out the parts. I have a 700$ budget.

Two easy question for you.
What will you want to do with this computer.. (Gamming comes to mind)
If possible will you be reusing any parts, like a moniter or speakers. To save money.

I would honestly ask for the money and save up more for a later build.

Yeah, that would probably be better especially if you don't already have a monitor.

and if you're using it for college, you might want to consider a laptop

as ste said what will you be using it for?
$700 will you buy you a very decent computer for general use and that can handle the load of many games - keeping in mind this is just for the pc not inc. monitor etc.

Oh I am sorry, I will be using this for gaming. And I don't need a monitor keyboard or mouse.

ok, well it's possible, Let me give you my build because I built mine on about 600, so you can change parts
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Orleans 2.4GHz 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail
Newegg.com - PC CHIPS A13G V1.0 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
Newegg.com - EVGA 256-P2-N624-AR GeForce 7900GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card - Retail
Newegg.com - COOLMAX CP-500T EPS12V 500W Power Supply 115/230 V UL, CSA, TUV - Retail
Newegg.com - Patriot 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory - Retail

now of course, you will be able to upgrade the proc. and the HD, and prolly the MOBO, although, I'm very impressed with PC chips

but that build cost me about $510 US

Good luck, feel free to ask me any questions about my build or any advice

heatsink comes with proc.
soundcard is built into the MOBO, and is on most, just make sure it has onboard sound
NIC is also on most MOBOs

of course, you could get aftermarket heatsinks, but I have my proc. OCed to 3.0GHz with stock cooling running really stable.

And if you want a boost in sound, then go with a sound card, but My sound is awesome, and I am using the MOBO.

so really those things are up to you.. but you shouldn't need a NIC unless you're going wireless
