i want to buy this but im a bit confused .this is the card i want to get ....... Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 .iv herd that this card is a slave card >- ATI® Crossfire™ Ready (Crossfire/Master Edition card required)
if i purchase this will it work on its own with out a master card

Yes, the card will work fine on its own... Basically, what you are reading is that to enable CROSSFIRE (ATI's version of SLI), you need a special CROSSFIRE master card to get it to work... I do believe that ATI is working away from this though, and that there should be firmware releases to enable 2 normal cards to work together... I am not 100% on that though.....

But anyways, yes, that card will work fine all by itself.
