Default hard drive question (External)

could you run a pc with an external harddrive and no HDD in side the pc? i just had another HDD messed up
stupid hard drives with there crashing and POWER REQUIRE MENTS! GOD DANGIT I HATE THEM! I HATE THEM!!!!!!

1GB PC3200 DDR400 RAM
Intel Pentium 4 540J HT 3.2 GHz
ASUS X800LX 256 (OC 415/500)

Well since the BIOS checks for the IDE channels to be used, I am guessing you couldn't w/out having an OS installed.

External HD's are mainly used for ease of access and back-up storage.
