Hey, i am rapidly using up all my hard drive which is an 80GB Maxtor 6 Y080M0 . My pc utility program says this
General Information :
Disk Type : Hard Disk
Peripheral Type : SCSI
Manufacturer : Maxtor 6
Model : Y080M0
Free Space : 18%

I would like to add a new hard drive which is descirbed on ebuyer.com as "Seagate ST380011A Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM ATA/100 2MB Cache - OEM". Would this work? I do not understand what IDE or SCSI are therefore i am slightly worried that this new hard drive will not work with the first one.

Could anybody please tell me if SCSI works with IDE. I have the feeling that i am asking a really stupid question but i am really new to upgrading so i hope you'll understand.

Thanks A Lot
Oz :)

SCSI ports will not work with IDE Drives and vice versa. You probably have IDE ports on your motherboard though. Open up your case and look for ports like these, Probably a different color though.

If its being used, you will see a long flat gray ribbon cable coming out of it. Like the gray one in the middle of this pic.

If you dont have any open IDE ports, then you need a controller card like this

It would appear that you have IDE ports. Open it up and check to be double sure though.
