hard drive

i have an a Maxtor Hard Drice 120 GB and i want to get the Western Digital Raptor HDD that is an SATA my hard drive uses the ribbon to connect from the harddrive to the mother board. teh raptor uses that SATA Cord to connect to the mother board. How do i get my old hard drive, the 120GB maxtor to be the salve drive and the Raptor to be the primary?

SATA is primary as default.

Just hook them both up to your motherboard, and when the SATA HDD is present in the system, the IDIE HDD will defualt to slave and the SATA HDD will become master.

It shouldnt matter anyway because they will be on different channels.

should i leave the maxtor as is or should i plug it in to the slave part of the ide ribbon

also would that mean i have to reformat my old hdd then reinstall xp on the raptor?
