Graphics Cards: High-end Last-Gen or Mid-End Current-Gen?

What do you think on the option of going with either a high end card from the last generation or a mid end card with the current generation when you are not able to afford the current higher end cards.

In example, I went with the former option and chose a Radeon X1950 (a higher end card of last gen) over say a 8600GT (this gens mid level card).

What would you choose?

8800GT. if you cant afford that, go with the 1950 as the 8600 isnt really that great of a card for gaming.

x1950 is a good choice...

Yeah, the 1950 is still one of the best bang for your buck cards and DX10 is still a ways off from becoming a requirement anyway.
