Graphics card(s) confusion

Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a new computer and have the option of the following:

1. A 320Mb nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS

or

2. 2 x 256Mb nVidia GeForce 8600 GTs in SLI configuration.

Both options cost the same price and I'm entirely undecided as to which option to go for. For information's sake I'm primarly a gamer with the usual sort of internet browsing, etc on the side.

Any information as to the benefits of one over the other, etc would be much appreciated.

I think the single 8800GTS would be better. Though someone with better knowledge should post.

Welcome to T.F.!!

The 8600GTs in SLI, are crap compared to a single 8800GTS. The GTS will simply, crush them. SLI is never worth it, unless you are SLIing high end video cards, playing on a 30" LCD, at 2560 x 1600.

I agree with Raze664 and b1gapl, SLI's just can't compare to 8800's. Or like b1gapl said, unless your running 8800 Ultras in SLI.

Was thinking of making it myself since I've tinkered around quite a bit - at least in the basic putting of one together, not so much in the tweaking. Will have to work out costs, etc.
