Unless you're into sound edition or something like that, save up the money of the sound card (integrated sound is enough) and get a better video card (much more important for gaming). Give a look at 7900GS, they're cheap and outperform a 7600GS by far.

When you go look at the specs it usually says.

Supported CPU
CPU Socket Type Socket T (LGA 775)
CPU Type Intel Pentium EE/Pentium D/Pentium 4 HT/Celeron D

Absolutely. I just bought a 7600GT, and I (just now) tried 15 mins of FEAR at max settings (1024x768 tho) - a breeze. The 7900GS is better than the 7600GT, so you'll run pretty much everything on high settings.

As for the motherboard, I'm afraid he's right, the one you chose won't fit a Conroe. If you want cheap and good, go with a Gigabyte GA-965P-S3. If you have a bit more money you can go DS3, or even an Asus P5B (got that one, it's beautiful).
