Default General Computer

Hi there, My gran wants a new computer. She has a laptop but cannot use it, so wants a desktop. I was looking at intel atom systems but most of them only come with one year warranties and are quite expensive with what you get compared to a normal system.

Preferably could you spec me one up from Aria PC - Computer Hardware, Components, Monitors.. at lowest prices or Cheap Laptop Deals, Monitors, Hard Drives and LCD TVs | Ebuyer.com

She doesn't want to spend more than £350, She also needs a monitor, But I've found a monitor for £99 on Aria.

So there's around £250 to spend.

The aim here is to give her a system wth a case that isn't too big , as she wants a small one, but i think a mid sized tower would suffice. I also want to make sure I can make this pc as futureproof as possible with the budget given.

Cheers - Josh.

Note; she'll only be using this machine for word processing, Emails, Online banking, facebook etc. She wants it to be really fast though so im thinking 4gb of ram.

She just hates it, She finds it annoying to use. She's actually giving it me so I can use it for college.

hm, ok. well here's one build:

cpu
AMD Athlon X2 245 2.9GHZ Socket AM3 2MB Cache Retail.. | Ebuyer.com

motherboard
ASUS M4A785T-M 785G Socket AM3 DVI VGA HDMI Out 8.. | Ebuyer.com

ram
Kingston 2gb Ddr3 1333mhz Hyperx Memory Cl7(7-7-7-20) | Ebuyer.com

hdd
Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm.. | Ebuyer.com

psu
Corsair 400W CX PSU - 12cm Fan 80Plus Certified.. | Ebuyer.com

optical drive
Samsung SH-S223 22x DVD±RW DL & RAM SATA.. | Ebuyer.com

case (plus an intake fan since it only comes with an exhaust fan)
Casecom MA-1199 Shiny Black MATX Tower Case - No PSU | Ebuyer.com
120mm Black Case Fan - 4 pin connector | Ebuyer.com

totals to about £244 (inc.vat.), before shipping cost.

for what you said she was gonna do, this should be plenty.

btw, this is just the tower, no OS, no peripherals as you can see. so if you need those you/she's gonna have to increase the budget or we're going to have to start cutting back on a couple things.

What about the Atom PC's, There's some custom built ones, for around the same price, I'm thinking theres no point to this aswell as theres barely any warranties on themand would be hard to replace the boards if they failed?
