Default Game running slow

Hey guys.
I have Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box on my PC. I play it on ~medium setings. SSAO disabled, no antialiasing, no motion blur and low resolution of 1024x720. It still lags down to ~20 FPS. I wonder if something is wrong with my system or is it just old :S
My computer specifications:
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
DX: 9.0c
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 530 @ 3GH
More CPU specs from CPU-Z:
Code name - Prescott
Package - Socket 775 LGA
Technology - 90nm
Core Voltage - 1.432V
Graphic card: NVidia GeForce 8600 GT 512MB
Motherboard: P5GD2 Deluxe
RAM: 2GB
All updated.

I've been thinking of buying either a new CPU or graphic card. What do you guys prefer for under $250?

Thanks.

At that resolution, I don't see why the 8600GT wouldn't play it...

You can still upgrade though. Are you looking to get a new monitor anytime in the future?

Well, my monitor is fine. The max resolution is 1280x1024. But I thought that the CPU was crap.

I'm looking at Net2World's website right now, and they have some good hardwares;
Intel E8400 Core2Duo (3.00GHz) 6MB, FSB1333, S775, BOX - 1799 SEK (~$227).
Intel Q8200 Core2Quad (2.33GHz) 4MB, S775, BOX - 1999 SEK(~$252)
GF GTX 260 896MB PCI-E 2.0 Cuda (Asus) - 2050 SEK(~$259)
GF 9800 GTX+ 512MB PCI-E 2.0 (Asus) - 1799 SEK(~$227)

So yeah, which one should I buy?

EDIT: Please, can you do me a favor? I give you the website, and look at their graphic cards, and recommend me one. Please, I would be very thankful.
Net 2 World - The site is in swedish... but just click "grafikkort" on the left Tell me the best one for around ~2000 SEK, thanks alot
EDIT 2: If you want to see more specifications, click graphic card.

Well, if you're looking to do a full on upgrade with a CPU, you'll need a new mobo. That board only supports P4 Prescotts and Celeron D's.

The reason I ask about a monitor is because I was going to say they are getting cheaper now for nice widescreen ones, but I don't know how it works in Sweden...I wish Hefe was on. :[ I was going to recommend the GTX 260, but it would be really nice with a better monitor. At your lower resolution it could be overkill, but for the extra 30 bucks USD, I think it would be worth it...

But if you want to keep costs low, you can get this one instead, it's a rebranded 9800GTX+, slightly better, less money: http://www.net2world.se/page_2.php?pt_id=6716

You'll still have a bottleneck in the CPU...you really need some more money to upgrade a few things. :\

Hey I peeked at inet.se, komplett.se and dustin.se

Of those three the best I found in your price range was from inet
https://www.inet.se/datorkomponenter...e-2-0/5408327/
1875 SEK
I have the same gpu which I purchased from inet and I am very happy with their service.

keep an eye on komplett.se because they have daily specials for around 30% off and if you want comes up it can be a great deal.

While this is a great card and within your budget it is a bit overkill for your resolution but it would move nicely to a new system later.

Thanks hikaricloud and Hefemeister. The Inet one looks good. ...but as you might've noticed, I'm a newbie to computer hardware and stuff, but love gaming. So I wonder if the CPU is just for loading the game or does it affect the performance and quality too? What I mean here is... Can I play Burnout Paradise on full settings and 1280x1024 resolution with the GTX 260 898MB 448 bit WITHOUT replacing any other part?

Don't see why not, but you will want to upgrade later on. The CPU is still a bottleneck, but with the power of that GPU, you should be fine.
