Friend looking for mobo+CPU

780i FTL. just my opinion. go with p45 chipset, way better than any 7-series chipset. unless he is absolutely definitely going SLI.

FTL? It's Faster Than Light?
He's says he'd prefer SLI but will go with something else if you're all sure.
In case he does decide to go for a P45, what would you recommend? Given a £100/$100 budget.

guru can help you, i dont know you redcoat's money system
but i will say this...i say no SLI unless:
a) he has a massive 30" 2560 rez screen
b) he cant afford a decent video card and has to SLI two cheap ones
c) he already owns an nvidia card and wants to SLI them

He does own an 8800 apparently, but still. I would grab a single GTX 260 216 or 4870 1GB and call it a day.

That along with an Asus P5Q-E or Gigabyte UD3P

**edit** also he really can save a lot buying a used CPU.
