The 9800GT is old tech. Look at an equivelantly-priced Ati 5000-series card.

And I would look at a wireless card which does n as well as b/g; though I'm unsure on pricing. It just gives you better speed and better futureproofing.

9800GT is $50 with rebate today so I thought that was good and cheap plus if I need more power later I can buy another one (which should be even cheaper later...) and slap them together for SLI?

That's my plan, is it workable?

If anyone can suggest a comparable card...i saw a ati 5670 for $85 with rebate, is that one better?

Ah, at that price the 9800GT is much preferred to the 5670 - it's slightly to a fair bit faster than the 5670.

And yes, it's a workable plan - assuming that you'll be able to find a 9800GT when you do decide to upgrade. They stopped making them a couple of years ago.
