Everything looks good. You could probably make a few modifications to either save money or get better parts. If you look for combos you may be able to save some money. Here's one try at it:
Same case + cooler + optical + ...

Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model BL2KIT25664BN1608 - Desktop Memory

$855.9 + shipping.

There's only $50 difference i believe, but its up to you, the parts you picked are also good.

Also, have a look at this cooler, i believe its better than the freezer pro and only $5 more:

Newegg.com - XIGMATEK Intel Core i7 compatible Dark Knight-S1283V 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

I also noticed you didn't include an OS, you already have one? If you do, make sure its 64bit.

If you're going for performance get a Samsung Spinpoint F3, if you're going for reliability the Caviar Blue is fine.

Switch out the Phenom II X4 965 with a Phenom II X4 955.
Phenom II X4 955=Phenom II X4 965
The only difference is a clock difference of .2Ghz and the 955 is $20-30 cheaper.
You can overclock and make up for that without touching anything but the multiplier lol.

Take advantage of combo deals.
Get a 770 motherboard if it's cheaper than the 785G You don't need a 785 unless you want to use the integrated graphics.
Also the 780L is a good motherboard if you don't think you'll ever want 8Gb of RAM.

The PSU is good.
If I were you, I'd get a 5770 over that 4870, as that 4870 isn't even available anymore.

And I'd get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 instead of that 92mm Arctic Cooling cooler.
(And get some good thermal paste/grease such as Arctic Silver 5 or w/e)

Also if I were you I would consider other cases. Unless you really like inverted ATX.
( I personally don't like inverted ATX, but whatever floats your boat. )

what do you mean?

the case he listed is a cm centurion 5 which is standard atx.

Re: First Time Computer build!

Get the phenom II X4 955 instead. It has an unlocked multiplier so its quite simple to set it at 965 speed.

Video card, i would get the 5770 or 4890 instead of the 4870. 5770 has similar performance but suports DX11, while the 4890 is the next step up in performance.

HD, see if you can get the Caviar Black instead.

If you're buying this from newegg, i suggest you look for combos to save money.

edit: how every strange! i didn't realize other people had replied (i'm one of them). I guess i only saw the op.
