Default first build...1500$

I just got 1500 dollars and i think that is a good time to build a new computer. I am current|y on a dell 4600 yukk... I am looking to build a ok Gaming computer.. the games that i wish to play as of now are... CsS, Bf2..and more alike..i would like my rig to be future proff, at least 3 years intill i goto college. The only reason that i really need help is because i dont know much about compatibilaty with prosserors and motherboards.

i dont need a mouse or a keyboard.. i dont really need a monitor, but i would like a nice bigg CRT if my budget can surfice..if not, then my 17 will do untill i can get more money...
THX in advance

DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D - $128.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ (2 x 2.2Ghz). - $526

1GB OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 DDR400 - $168.

120GB Seagate Barracuda SATA300/SATAII. - $90.

eVGA GeForce 6800GT - $285.

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound Card - $49.

Samsung CD/DVD Burner OR AOpen CD/DVD Burner depending on the color of your case. - $38 each.

Total - $1284, and its missing a case and a aftermarket Power Supply. For the Power Supply, I would go with the one Ste posted; though you could save some money on another one, its late here and I have to go. I'll find you one tomorrow. It also doesn't include shipping and handling which can be up to $100 on some equipment.

I'll leave the Case to someone else since I don't know a lot of good ones.

As for the processor, you said you wanted a future-proof computer. The AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ is a Dual-Core processor with 2 cores running at 2.2Ghz each and with 1MB L2 cache each for a total of 2MB L2 cache. Dual Core is the future, but its not the BEST right now. Single core CPUs do better in games right now, and I would've recommended a single core, but you said you wanted it to last like 3 years, and that PC will do 3 years easy.

Good luck with case, and good luck with building. If you need anything else, just post.

I also suggest that you buy from the website whose links I posted. it is the most reliable on the Internet and has excellent service.

In response to Ste's post; I think you need to do rescearch on more than just PSUs.

- Athlon 64 3500+ isn't worth it. For one thing, he said he wants future proof, I wouldn't even buy a 3500+ right now. Besides, I've overclocked my 3200+ to match a Athlon 64 4000+ AKA a FX-53. 3500+ is plain illogical.

- Motherboard is good, but there are better motherboards out there. He has $1500 so he can get much better quality stuff.

- GeForce 6800 regular is not worth it either. Since he has $1500 its not practical. The GeForce 6800GT however, is MUCH better and one of the best bang-for-the-buck cards out there. It can also easily be overclocked to 6800Ultra speeds.

- I don't even know what that sound card is.

- Despite its reviews, hasn't anyone told you that Corsair XMS is some of the worst overclocking RAM out there? If someone isn't overclocking, they should just go with Corsair ValueSelect. There is NO reason to buy XMS. OCZ EL Platinum Rev.2 though is still a decent overclocker and enough to take his 4400+ as high as it wants to go.

- A $150 DVD burner? No comment...

Hello? Are you going to come back or did you desert us? What a waste of a perfectly fine setup...

I agree with Flanker about Ste's horrible build....

Also he could probably squeeze one of these in there:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130247

considering its only $75 more than a 6800gt, what a deal...

As far as CRT's go...buy a viewsonic if you can...19"...like this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824116282

21" Crts are too much $, IMHO, your better off jumpin to an LCD for that price....$400-$500...

You dont need a sound card unless your ultra fussy. My onboard sound on my Asus board rocks.

i would say get 2GBs of valueselect ram and a 7800GT and a 3800+ if he has to, cause the only difference is the extra 1MB cache, and ppl here say oh that doesnt really help it much. and you can always OC. so you could get a 3800+ and a 7800GTX cause its like a 100 dollar price difference or what between the 3800 and the 4400

Well, after that case he only has $161 left for a PSU and still haven't included shipping.

I guess he could go with a 3800+, but still, he should take advantage of the money he has. I can see where you guys come from with the 7800GT but even the 6800GT, and maybe overclocked a little, could still max out any game out there. And if he wants to, he could upgrade in a few years when the 6800GT starts to get too old.

He said he doesn't need a monitor right now. He's gonna get more money for one. Since others were recommending their own, I'll recommend mine;

17", a bit smaller than the others, but I have it and I love it. Its huge as far as I'm concerned and fits my needs and then some. It looks damn good too. Acer AL1715 8ms 17" LCD Monitor.
