You can get a better build for around the same price

Video card:
Newegg.com - MSI NX8600GT-T2D256E OC GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

8600GT is as good as HD2600XT GDDR3, if not better. And it is cheaper

Motherboard:
Newegg.com - ABIT IP35-E LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

This motherboard cost only $59 after MIR, and it is one of the best intel motherboards

CPU
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail

E6750 performs better and consume less power than AMD 6400+

i have a 256 video card in this computer i wanna move up to 512.. and going with AMD with this build... and with 5000+ i could clock up to 3000 but with 6400+ i heard people clocking up to 3.8

Videocard for the win:
Newegg.com - GECUBE HV195PG3-D3(RoHS) Radeon X1950PRO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

your 7600GT will perfrom like a 8600GTS, x1950PRO out performs both of em by alot. Memory size is not as important as the GPU itself.

Intel CPU's could clock to 3.8ghz as well if you got the right motherboard same goes for AMD, your motherboard aint the best.

If you really insist staying with AMD I recommend:
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition Processor - Retail or
Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 2.8GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor - OEM or
and artic freezer 64

motherboard:
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TA770 A2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail or
Newegg.com - MSI K9A2 CF-F AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Just like darksideleader said, memory size is not important. 512MB HD2600XT performs exactly the same as 256MB HD2600XT because this GPU is not powerful enough to take the advantage of 512MB memory

Intel CPU can be overclocked to 3.8 as well

Don't forget the fact that Intel performs better clock for clock. I'm pretty sure that E6750 overclocked to 3.0GHz would perform almost as good as 6400+ @ 3.8GHz

X1950pro does perform better than 8600GT but if you are not a gamer, I would get the 8600GT because is cheaper

Go with AMD its cheaper and efficient. But I m not a hard core gamer so I wouldn't know how well it does in gaming.
