Default Feedback on this AMD System

Hi guys,
I am looking at buying the following system:

- AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor Retail (939)
- ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 nForce4 Motherboard
- 1024MB (2x512MB) Value Select PC-3200 DDR Ram Corsair
- Westerd Digital 250GB SataII 7200rpm HDD
- ASUS EN7800GT-2DHTV-256 DDR3 PCI-Express DVI TVO
- Samsung 940BB 19" Inch TFT Thin Bezel/Height Adj LCD Black 8ms with DVI
- Pioneer DVR-110DBK 16X DVD-/+R/RW Dual Layer
- CoolerMaster Centurion 532 Aluminium Bezel Case Black with 430W
- Creative Soundblaster Audigy Value Sound Card 7.1

How would you guys rate this, and is there anything you would add/remove/change? I can spend a little bit more money if need be, but not too much.

Thanks very much guys, and I look forward to your comments.

Cheers
Scott

IMO, the onboard sound is plenty good enough. I'm pretty sure that board comes with 7.1 onboard. Yes, onboard equipment may take up a little CPU power, but it's so minimal, I doubt you'd notice a difference.

For an extra $25 you can get a 3700, which I figure is a worthwhile step up. For $25, you double your L2 cache.

Everything else looks really good

Thanks for that. Yah I was still deciding whether or not to get the sound card. People seem to have mixed opinions as to whether it is really worth the money. I was even looking at getting the 3800+, would that be a worthwhile upgrade, or would the 3700+ be enough?

Are you buing this prebuilt? If you can, get a different power supply than comes with the case, like an Antec or OCZ. At least 500W.
The 3700 is an awsome processor and its definately worth getting.

I am getting it built for me by the vendor, but I can pick and choose what I want.

Yeah I have received a lot of tips to get at least 500W PSU. Is the following one any good ... "Powersupply Antec ATX TruePower TrueControl 550W with Fan Controler".

Will it satisfy the power needs for my video card as well?

So would the 3800+ be a bit of an overkill?

Oh, that's a wonderful power supply.

If the 3800 is a single core CPU, then I would NOT upgrade to it. If it's the dual core 3800+, then yes, great upgrade. But back to the single core... It has half of the L2 cache of the 3700+ but has a higher clock speed to make up for it. In short, if you overclock the 3700 by 100mhz, I'm sure it will be on par with the 3800+. The 3700 is probably your better bet.

I am only looking at single core CPU (dual cores are not really necessary for my needs at the moment), so I will go with the 3700+.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your feedback.

The Antec truepower 550W is a great PSU, I use one myself and it works great, provides plenty of juice for my system.

Just an update from me. This is what it looks like after I have received feedback from various people.

One last thing I am still deciding on is whether or not to go that little bit further and get a dual core processor (3800+ X2). Is it worth the money, or not at this stage.

- AMD Athlon¬ô 64 3700+ Processor Retail (939)
- ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 nForce 4 Motherboard
- 1024MB (2x 512MB) Value Select PC-3200 DDR RAM Corsair
- Western Digital 250G SATAII 7200 rpm HDD
- Asus EN7800GT-2DHTV-256 DDR3 PCI-Express DVI TVO
- Samsung 940BB 19 inch TFT Thin Bezel/Height Adj LCD Black 8ms with DVI
- Pioneer DVR-110DBK 16X DVD-/+R/RW Dual Layer(OEM Black)(no software)
- Sony 1.44 Floppy Drive(Black)
- D-Link DWL-G510 PCI wireless network card 802.11G (54Mbps)
- Logitech Z4 2.1 Speakers System
- Thermaltake VC2000BNS Mambo Black Case (NO PSU)
- Logitech Cordless Rechargable Desktop Keyboard/mouse(967496-0122)
- D-Link DWL-G700AP AirplusG 11/54 Mbps Wireless LAN Access Point 802.1
- Powersupply Antec ATX TruePower TrueControl 550W with Fan Controler

Once again guys, thanks for all your help.
