External HD question

I'm considering getting an external HD for data backup (only) purposes and am looking at one that is powered via a USB 2.0 connection. My motherboard only has USB 1.0 capability. Some of my other peripherals are designed for 2.0 but they function on 1.0, albeit slower. Would that be the case with the HD as well? Will it work at all? Thanks!

The USB2.0 interface will slow down to USB1.0. The hard drive will work, files will transfer but it will be a bit slower.
