I purchased Windows XP Home Edition with the Service Pack II and received the following error message while attempting installation.







Set up cannot find the previous version of Windows installed on your computer. To continue, set up needs to verify that you qualify to use this upgrade product.

Please insert one of the following Windows product cd's into the cd rom drive:
Windows XP Home Edition Full Version
Windows XP Professional Version
Windows 2000 Professional
Windows Millenium
Windows 98
Windows NT
Work Station 4.0
Windows 95
Windows NT WorkStation 3.51

.when the cd is in the drive press enter

.to quit set up press f3.

Asking the obvious here, did you accidentally recieve an upgrade to XP Home SP II and not the complete stand alone OS?

If you paid less then $200 for it then, it's the upgrade version and not the full.

There's no probably about it. He has an UPGRADE disk.

All you need to do is to fish up ANY earlier version of Windows disk. Pop it in, and away you go.

Oh, and it helps to actually read the packaging before you buy.

If you were sold this online, but was not told that it was an upgrade version, you were misled and can take them to court.
