Dvd Burner Question

I am buying a new DVD burner that burns dual layer DVDs it's the "I/O Magic Internal DVD+/-R/RW Dual Format & Dual Layer Drive (IDVD16DL)". I have a regular External DVD burner and I was thinking about putting the new burner into the usb case and making it an external burner. Can I do that or would the power requirements be too different?

Generally, the power requirement is about the same for all DVD burners. As long as there is nothing proprietary about the case that would not allow a different drive to fit, then I see no problem arising from this.
