Hi! I need to buy an internal DVD Burner for a gift, but there are so many and I'm not sure what to get! Can you help?

Would the only compatibility issues come from it being SATA or IDE?

How do I know if he needs SATA or IDE (his mobo is an "MSI K7N2 Delta2, NVIDIA nForce 2 Ultra 400 Chipset Based"--I have the box)

What burner would be THE BEST? Price isn't really an issue. Will be used to burn DVDs and other data.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Gina~~

that board has 2 sata and 4 ide connectors

so depending on if they are already in use or not, you may use either

DVD burners has been out a long time, they've optimized it very well, I'd just grab the cheapest one on newegg.com

however others may differ eg. X brand is better/quieter/faster/blah blah blah

Thanks for giving me the info on the board, Fat.Clown.

I don't think the 2 SATA connectors will be in use because he only has his (dead) DVD burner and a (useless) floppy drive installed.

Is SATA or IDE better? I think SATA is newer, so I probably want to go with that in case he ever upgrades his mobo. Right?

Oh no, hard drives! He has like 6 of them in there! Darn, I may have to ask him and ruin the surprise!

LG with lightscribe feature at newegg for 24 delivered. Comes in IDE or Sata. I have Sata and it works great.
