Dual External Monitor Support for a Dell Inspiron 15R

Need some help urgently for a few work-related deliverables I have for tomorrow at 9AM!

I bought a Dell Inspiron 15R laptop, and am looking to add two external monitors (two Dell external monitors; 2005FPW (1680x1050) and a Dell 19' (1280x1024)). My laptop only has (1) an HDMI out and (2) a VGA. I tried this through a VGA Splitter, but it's not recognizing the second external monitor (will only let me replicate the first external monitor on this, and not extend my display). I want to make sure both external monitors can function as separate monitors and not a large monitor (i.e. so a program can be full-screen on one monitor and not across all three). Would the following device work with my computer?

Can't you just plug one in the VGA and the other in the HDMI? Or do they not have those connections on the monitors?

No, though theres 2 different outputs, it still runs off of 1 display device. You'll need an adapter like the evga uv-16 to do it.

Are the two similar in functionality and use?

They seemn very simular, though the evga are 1/2 the price.

I've never personally seen either, so you'd need to do some research.
