i think dualcore is the way to go especally if you get a core2duo i have a pentium D 940 and it runs games pretty well. all though i have a (dont laugh) geforce fx 5500 PCI. and my system does games pretty well. but dualcore is the way to go

My system:

3.4ghz Pentium 4 Dual Core
2 gig ram
256mb Radeon 1900gt
200gb 7200rpm hard drive

I really like the Dual Cores... Granted a single Core that is as fast will likely be nearly as efficient... The Dual Cores will be more important in coming months and years (especially for new games and demanding programs)....
