Default diskette formatting

I have an old 3 1/2 disk that has data on it that is much needed, however every drive reads the disk and states it needs formatting. How can I retrive the data and not format the disk?

The only way is to format, There is no point in trying to restore data from it. Right click Format or in CMD type : "format A:" and press enter.
