Default Decent Gaming Processor?

Heya!

Let me start out by saying my last processor was a AMD Athlon 64 Duel Core 2.7 but a few months ago it fried

Now! im looking for a replacment, would like to spend no more then $170 USD

here's some of what I've been looking at-

Newegg.com - AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops
Newegg.com - AMD Phenom 9950 BLACK EDITION Agena 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 140W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

what im looking for is a processor that can handle gaming, for instance, Red Alert 3, Crysis, etc...

with my setup I was able to run Crysis on max settings and got around 30fps

anyways, any advice would be greatly apreciated

Go with the X4 9750 instead if you want. Its about 2.4ghz stock, but you can over clock it to about 3ghz with a nice cooler. Also its hovering around like 165$. The Q6600 probably out performs it any day of the week though.... sadly.

Get one of two, Q6600 or X2 9750 Phenom.

Hold on a minute... More importantly, what motherboard do you have? It would suck to buy a processor that won't work in your board.
