Im using a Gigabyte GA-7VT600-PL Rev 1.0 motherboard (Chipset: VIA KT600), Athlon 2800+ @ 2.09GHZ / 166MHZ FSB. The board has 3 DDR slots (DDR1, DDR2, DDR3).

Current Memory: 768MB DDR-SDRAM (BIOS DRAM Timings Manual: 2.5-3-3-7)
>> DDR1 Slot: 256MB OCZ OCZ333256V PC2700 Value (SPD: CL 2.5-3-3-8)
>> DDR2 Slot: Empty
>> DDR3 Slot: 512MB OCZ OCZ400512V25 PC3200 Value (SPD: CL 2.5-4-4-8)

The problem Im having is with the memory sticks I can use on the mobo. When I tried installing my 256MB OCZ PC3200 stick into DDR2 slot along side the other 2 mentioned above, the system refused to POST. I tried rearranging just the two mentioned above so that the 512MB stick was in DDR1 and 256MB PC2700 was in DDR2 or DDR3. The PC turned on and POST but only recognized 512MB.

Can someone please explain to me why this motherboard/chipset is refusing to acknowledge 1GB of DDR SDRAM (256MB, 256MB, 512MB) ? Is there something I can reference for this chipset which clearly states why I cant exceed 768MB (256MB in DDR1 and 512MB in DDR3)? The OCZ DDR ram are in perfect health and the board is capable of 3GB total memory. I've never had troubles with the 768MB with my current OS, playing games, and such.

You might want to check with your motherboard's manufacturer on the specifics for installing new RAM, some models will only recognize sticks that are all the same size.
