Alright, I am getting a notebook to go to college with and I want something that is not too expensive but powerful, I want to be able to run good pc games smoothly but get my work done. How does this sound? (I customized it).

HP Pavilion with:
Windows home edition sp2
Intel P4 520 w/hyperthreading @2.8GHz
17" WXGA with brightview (1440x900)
512 MB DDR2 RAM, 533 MHz (2x256)
80 GB 5400 RPM HD
DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) X600

I would have gone with the AMD Processor but you can only get a 128 MB Graphics card with hypermemory with the AMD. Will 512 MB of RAM be enough, and could I buy a 512 MB stick and use that with one of the 256 to get like 750 MB of RAM?

But overall, for $1350, how does this sound? will it be able to run most games and apps? thanks.

well, compare this next customizations. Tell me which is better in which areas please. The gateway actually looks better for games with the gpu, but I am no pro. Thanks.

HP Pavilion @ $1334:
Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-37 (2.0GHz/1MB L2 Cache)

128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM)
1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
