Default CPU upgrade... update bios?

I've been wanting to upgrade my CPU from an old E2200 to a Q9300 on my P5QL PRO Asus. My bios has never been updated and I've gone to the Asus website to try and find out if I need to update it or not to be compatable for the new CPU. My bios version is revision 1.xx

Anybody know off hand if I do indeed need to flash my bios for the upgrade?

Core 2 Quad Q9300 (2.5GHz,1333FSB,L2:6MB,rev.M1,4 cores) ALL 0304

You need at least v 0304.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will bite the bullet and attempt to flash my bios. If It doesn't go well... time to upgrade my mobo too.

are you sure that's your bios version? just asking cuz it doesn't sound like a bios version, it sounds like a mobo revision or something.

just to make sure, download CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting and run it. go to the "mainboard" tab and halfway down it'll tell you your mobo's bios version.

Awesome program. You are correct. The revision was my mobo revision number and not my bios version. Blond moment!

I'm running version 0402 which I believe is compatable with the Q9300 intel chip. Off to do more research and then Tiger Direct!

yep, you shouldn't need to update your bios after all.

And my new Quad Core 9300 is on order. Thank you very much for all your help.

And for my next trick... new mobo for SLI.

Thanks again.
