oi, thats unfortunate, looked like a good system.

if you have £120 to spend on just mobo, cpu, ram, these could work:

Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2 GeForce 7100 Socket 775 onboard VGA 6 channel audio mATX Motherboard - Ebuyer

Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 2.5GHz Socket 775 800FSB 2MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor - Ebuyer

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Gold XTC Memory CL5 LIFETIME WARRANTY - Ebuyer

would be 130 with shipping

this ram would work better with this board instead of the other ram i linked before.

eh i dont think so because the windows install thats on your current hdd has the hardware configuration of the one its in right now. it would only work if you moved it to another pc with the exact hardware.

you could get the windows 7 rc for free which will last you until i think june of 2010, at which time you'll have to purchase it.

if you are gonna use 7 you can either backup your data and do a new install or dual boot.

Do you have your key?

As long as you have a legit key, Any vista disk works. You'll have to call MS to reactivate it properly.

Theres a win 7 beta that you can use for free untill june or july next year.

well, if you can somehow get ahold of a vista disc, you can use this program to retrieve your key from your pc.

Magical Jelly Bean Software - Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder v2.0.1

win 7 would be a temporary solution i guess, but surely you can save up enough in 365 days

edit: 7 isnt bad, it uses less system resources than vista so it would probably run smoother.
