I have been kind of doing my homework on CPU's trying to figure out which one to build my system with... and I have a few questions.
So I am trying really to get the best bang for my buck, and I was going to spend $500 for the entire system, but I am considering spending near $700. Here is what I have been looking at:
AMD Phenom II X4 940 (In addition to all of AMD's Quad Core Processors)
Intel Dual Core Processors
Intel Quad Core Processors
In reviewing a few benchmarks it seems like the Core 2 Duo chips almost always beat the Intel Quad Core chips (with a few exceptions) and in some cases the AMD Phenom Quad Core Chips. But to get one of the higher end Core 2 Duo Chips, or Intel Quad Core chips I'm going to have to pay a lot more money. If I try to go for a low end i7 chip everything just goes up in price. So how do the AMD Quad Core chips compare to the Core 2 Duo's and the Intel Quad Cores? They are obviously a much cheaper option. Are they Good, Bad, even? Is it a better buy to get an AMD Quad vs a lower end Intel Chip? Is the AMD Phenom II 940 much faster than the other chips in that line, or would it be better if I decided to go AMD to get a chip lower in that line and save a few bucks?
Im thinking about matching this chip with 4GB of either DDR2 or DDR3 depending on the chip, and an Nvidia GTX 260. Im simply going to be gaming on this machine, I do all my school work on my laptop.
