Core 2 Extreme is an extreme edition of the Core 2 Duo family. The quad core you're mentioning, I think is named Core 2 Quad. There is an extreme edition to the quad core called the QX6700.

but so far intel have not came out with any quad right?i dont see any on intel's page that mention qx6700.what i see is extreme x6800 the best processor and followed by e6700.

I believe the quad cores from Intel aka Kentsfield, is being released sometime this month.

Well, if you would like to read more about it, then have a look here.

Right now, Intel only has one Quad Core. It is the Extreme Edition. It is called the QX6700. The dual core Extreme Edition is the X6800.

Here's another article to read.
