Hello there chaps.

Decided its time for an an upgrade from my old computer (about 3 years old)
so was lookin through various online shops and ebay etc looking at complete
systems. After finding this site quite by accident ive been inspired to have a
pop at creating my own beast. And from what ive seen i can get a better
system for the price. Which im quite happy about actually as i love messin
around with all things electrical (despite generally not havin the first clue
what im doin).

Which is were you knowledgeable people come in :D .

Its for home use, internet etc and also for playing games as im a big kid.
I realise my budget which is about £400 - £450 aint gunna be breakin any boundaries technologically. i only need the base unit however and was
hoping i would be able to use my existing harddrive (aswell as a new one
because its only 80gb but has all my old stuff on and my os). should be
able to use my psu and dvd drive also.

Lookin forward to putting it together, but i would appreciate help on which
parts to buy and from where. Im in engand if that makes any differance to
the suppliers.

appreciate any help you can give

andy

(Im not being lazy and am looking through old posts also.trying to cram in
losts of info )

:amazed:

whats your budget (and what currency) . It looks less than 900 (i guess) so i don't know, you also make it look like a multi tasking computer by the looks so i think you should get an P 4

Can you maybe give us some different currency values. but from what you have already said it sounds like you would be good on a midrange 2.8 P4 or a lower range AMD. also what kinds of games are u playing, SIMS?, FPS?, RPS? what that will help on the video?

Sorry if ive been a bit vague, im just feelin my way.

budget is £400 - £450, which i believe is about $800 - $900
It is going to be mainly a gaming machine, but with good storage.
As to specifically which games..... no specific genre unfortunately,
im easily pleased haha.

Im not gunna be overclocking or doing anything technically with it once built.

Im basically looking for value for money, need to know the best
performance i can get for that budget.

Just to confirm, can i buy parts in america and use them in england or would
there be issues?

THINGS I DONT NEED:

MONITOR
KEYBOARD
MOUSE
PSU
DVD DRIVE
FLOPPY DRIVE

cheers for the advice.

andy

if i had that kind of budget iwould get at least
a pentium p4 or celeron d( mobo to go with)
1 gb ram
at least an nVidia geforce 6600
and an 160 to 200 gig hd
that would set you up plus havin alittle money left over for maybe some other fancy stuff. sorry though i don't know if you can order overseas but here are some really good american sites
www.tigerdirect.com
www.newegg.com
