cheapest Video Card

heres the dilema.....

i want to build a awesome computer but my wife cant see me spending 1500 on a PC. so i'm trying to downgrade the stuff i've picked. so........

what is a good (cheap) graphics card that will get me by till i can upgrade at a later date. if gaming wasnt an issue what would a good one be ? and then will it play any games ? how well ?

6600gt, they're like around $150 these days.
x850gto is also a good choice.

yeah definitely at 6600, but if you can go a lil higher get an 6800, it should be able to run anything pretty well.

6600GTs are around $100, the 6800GS can be had for about $160.

so can you see why i need to trim down. does anyone see where i can cut some and still be a pretty good PC ?

well if the only thing you want to cut is the video card don't go any lower than a GeForce 6200. its not the greatest of cards but it will play pretty much any game including FEAR. its cheap and should hold for a while

i'd take recomendations on cutting anything ? the lower price the better it will be. i just dont want to have to upgrade to soon. but as long as it wasnt to expensive an upgrade i could save for them one at a time. the thing is i jsut want to get soemthing to replace the junk i have now.now that i "know" what i could have it kills me to use what i got.

How much are you trying to cut?

For one thing, I would get a 6800GS for $160 instead of the 7600.

Maybe get a little bit cheaper monitor. Any 8ms will do just fine.

Get rid of the modem unless you have dialup.

Get a fortron 450W PSU instead. Better and cheaper.

You could also cut the CPU to a 3200 or 3500 instead. It wouldn't be too big of a loss in performance, but if you are trying to save money, then it could help.

I would get a MSI K8N Neo4-F instead of the infinity. The DFI infinitys are the cheaper, crappier boards that they make.

Getting Corsair valueselect will also save you a few bucks.
