Default cheap build

My brother wants me to build him a computer for his living room, he said he wants to spend around $300. He wants something he can listen to his music in the living room. He wont need a big hard drive because he will be playing it from his other pc through his network, but the hard part is staying close or under 300.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103033
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Socket AM2 - $91.99 (same price as above proc, better performance)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813135028
ECS NFORCE4M-A AM2 Motherboard - $55.99 (cheaper than above board, well rated, though ECS is a bit touchy sometimes)

Keep the rest of the parts. Pick up some more RAM and this system will speed by the above one.

That's doable. Get this processor, instead, with the board I listed.

That comes out to $317.33, and if you REALLY must shave off a few more dollars, get a smaller, IDE harddrive.

EDIT: Like this.

Go to walmart and buy a compaq prebuilt, Last time I checked they had ones for exactly 300, without a monitor.

Actually, Black Friday (that's this coming Friday) at Fry's would be a better option. They often sell PCs with completely off the shelf parts for dirt cheap prices.

Yeah, Prebuilt is the way to go for something that simple that you won't need alot from.
