I came into a few parts this week and I'm wanting to upgrade my brother's computer. My problem is that I can't decide what the best combination of parts would be.

I could either build a socket 370 celeron 600, 256mb of ram 100mhz, Intel 810 chip set, and a Voodoo 3 pci 16mb video card all wrapped up in a gateway micro atx case.

Or, a Slot A Pentium2 450 mhz, 320mb of ram at 133mhz, Via 133 chip set, the same voodoo 3 card or maybe a agp card if i can apprehend one all in a mid tower case.

I plan on installing Windows 2000 on it for him but I don't know which option is the better performer.

Thanks for any helpful responses.

what do you think he's going to use it for? email/internet? or gaming?
with a system that old, gaming is almost out of the question...

He likes the classics, Age of Empires, Quake2, unreal tournament, etc. He mostly just surfs the web though.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll go with the Pentium system for him.

Those games will really struggle on that Pentium build, because the system is so outdated.

Socket A is AMD by the way.

i think that 450 mhz pentium is really P3 NOT P2, but either way P3 is better..

The Pentium 2 is over clocked and its slot 1. Sorry for the mistake.

I'm a fan of athlon systems but the only athlon i have for him is an old athlon k6. I plan on handing him my 3200xp system once I build a C2D system.

Thanks for all the info folks have a nice day.
