Default Canoups dvstorm vs firewire?

ok i have a question, my client has a canopus capture card called the canopus dvstorm the funny thing is, he doesn't use it for its capabilities, hes only hooking it up to the firewire end of the card. so i ask you, is there a difference between the canopus dvstorm and any firewire (ilink) adapter i could get online?

I seriously doubt it. The firewall is just an added function. Acually, a stand-alone firewire card would be better for the client as he would not have to power the whole card, nor would he have the extra drivers and whatnot floating around that could possibly cause conflicts.
