Just curious, but can a complete solid PC build be done for under 1k U.S dollars? By solid I mean something fully upgradable that should be able to last for over a year and have some great gaming performance? Thinking of switching from Intel to AMD, and usually buy stuff from NewEgg. If anyone has any suggestions on some components or even links if this can be done I'd be greatly appreciative. This would be case, PSU, literally everything minus the monitor.

For gaming? Its possible to get a pretty nice machine for about $1K
AMD 64 3200
MSI K8N NEO-F mobo
6800GS
1 or 2 GB value ram
DVD burner
Decent sized SATA HDD (really depends on how much space you want)
Fortron 450W PSU or Antec truepower 550W for a little more
Cool case

That should be able to play almost any current game on mid/high settings.

Im too lazy to find links, but just look at the egg

You're missing the OS schulz, thats another $100.

Get an Antec Truepower 550W PSU, not that aspire one.

he didn't states that he needed an OS or i would have included it he alreayd might have a copy of it and didn't post it jsut wanted to know if he could do it for under 1k

Just my opinion, but that Aspire PSU will work fine if you decide on it. $49.99 after rebate, and it will last you forever. I have the exact same one, and its been running fine for nearly two years now.

get the forton 450 instead. Wicked awesome. Also don't be afraid to look elsewhere for parts. I know that monarch has been having some decent sales on GPU, RAM and dfi boards.

And the 3800+ isn't $269 it's $296

Recently I built my first computer and all said and done, it cost about $900. There are a couple of things I would have done differently. That would have taken the price just over $1000. My Seagate 120gig HD came from Ebay. Brand new for $56. I found a place online that sells Windows XP for $80. It just takes a little patience.
