Buying a new laptop

True, but have the laptops I've shortlisted got a 7600 GT card, or just a standard 7600 card.

Also this website seems to back up Alvin's view that the performance of the two cards is very similar.

The HP Pavilion DV9233 and Mesh M677 laptops you've shortlisted have Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 graphics. Yep they perform similarly in the real world.

So my choice is basically between the Asus and the Mesh listed before, unless anyone can suggest any alternatives?

Therefore I go back to my earlier question, would you say the Asus was justifiably £120 more?

Thanks.

Both £759?

Does that mean I've found a real bargain here?

Although the differnce is only £90, it is still a considerable difference for a hard-up student like myself;)

Where did you see the Asus for that price also, as the cheapest I have found is £790?

Thanks.

I purchased a 6000t from HP, very nice laptop with a 7400 Go inside of it, not the best of video cards, but well enough to play most RTSs and most RPGs with medium to high graphics. Besides I got the laptop for college not games.

I see, a good find! I was looking at the Mesh M677 priced £759 at the Mesh website: http://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=176627

The Asus F3JP is also on sale at http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk for £759.97 here http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Asus_F3Jp_Laptop_F3JP-AP063C/version.asp

Personally I would spend an extra £90 to get the Asus F3JP, mainly because it has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. However performance will be good on both laptops, so if you want to save as much money as you can, the Mesh / MSI M677 will still meet your needs.

Interesting, the same website!

It must have dropped in price since I did my initial research.

Thanks for all your help everyone (especially Alvin).

I think I probably will go for the Asus.
