Acer, in my 3 months hunt for best price/package ratio, I found out you get most of your money with Acer. None Other.

hmm, I bought from UK www.shopacer.com, but dont go for ferrari as if you really dont need it, as I bought keeping in mind really high specs, which you might not needing. alternatively, you can get a ML-32 version for Acer Ferrari, which will be cheaper, but same looks. it wasnt the looks that I bought Ferrari for, but the things under the hood. later on I realised that Looks are as well worth the price paid for. best to check out the Acer websites for your country, and they have links for their recommended channnel partners.

if you want to save A LOT of money a well configured P3 laptop should do the job with ease so you could pick one up second hand.

That won't be upgradeable, and its old technology.
Acer is good, otherwise try Dell. An Inspiron should do well for your needs and budget. The inspiron 6400 should do well for you. The basic price is $822, then you can customize it if you like. Heres the link: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...=i6400lo&s=bsd

Well, laptops really aren't upgradeable. A P3 like nitestick said, would be fine if all you do is excel/internet and would be pretty cheap.

Lol, all you have to do is stick in another 256MB of ram, and then if you need you can upgrade to a bigger hdd
