Hi, I'm looking to build me a new pc and I have a few questions. I've pretty much decided whats going in it:

Abit KN8 Ultra SKT939 £70

Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice) £110
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=88109

2xCrucial PC3200 512Mb £60
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=46420

GeForce 6800GS 256Mb £170
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=98817

Seagate Barracuda SATA 150 200Gb £65
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=74108

I'll also be throwing in the optical drives fom my old system and a few other things. Now onto the questions!

1. Is this all compatible?
2. I have a largeish IDE drive which I'd like to use, will it get on ok with the SATA?
3. You may have noticed that I've missed out a case and psu. I've discovered that I need ATX 12v for my board, but which wattage should I be looking at? ATX 12v supplies seem expensive and I don't want a larger one that I need
4. I've heard that prices drop after christmas, is this true and how much of a drop are we looking at and after how much time?
5. Just general comments on my choices, is there anything I should upgrade/downgrade or have I forgotten anything. Will I need a seperate cpu fan or will the one that comes with the Athlon be ok? How are the prices on those things (all prices from ebuyer.com)

Its not so important for gaming but more for apps (3d modelling, C++ and Java developing in Eclipse etc) but it would be nice if it could perform reasonably well on games.

Sorry about all the questions, thanks in advance!

Looks fine. Your current IDE drive should work fine with your new SATA drive. I've got several drives of both type all working happily together.

Cool, it's like the UK version of newegg. I'm not an expert at power, but There are a bunch of good power supplies at about the 550w mark, and I'd think if you got a case with like a 480w or something like that, you would be fine. I've been running that chip(different motherboard) on the 350w supply that came with the case, and it was fine, but then I switched it out for a 500w one and it was good still.

As for cases, I don't know what kind you're looking for. Color? size? style?

Thanks for the fast response! I think I'm going for a black mid tower, nothing too fancy.

The thing with the power supply is that I've read that the board needs ATX 2.0, which is 24 pin rather than 20 pin. However I'm a little confused, some people seem to imply that most normal ATX supplies come with a 4 pin connector which can be used alongside the 20 pin to support ATX 2. Is this correct? I found an ATX 2 400w supply for £50 but this seemed a bit steep, and generally ATX 2 supplies seem to be much lower wattage than normal ones

Edit: This is what wikipedia says on the matter

* ATX - 20 pin connector (Used until Pentium III and Athlon XP)
* WTX - 24 pin connector (Pentium II and III Xeon and Athlon MP)
* ATX12V - 20 pin main connector, 4 pin secondary connector, 8 pin tertiary connector (Pentium 4 and Athlon 64)
* EPS12V - 24 pin main connector, 8 pin secondary connector, 8 pin tertiary connector (Xeon and Opteron)
* ATX12V 2.0 - 24 pin main connector, 4 pin secondary connector (Pentium 4 and Athlon 64 with PCI Express)

With my board being Athlon 64 and PCI Express it would seem I need an ATX12V 2.0, right?
