Instead of the expensive noctua heatsink, you could do what I've done - bought a xigmatek S1283 (or alternative, cheaper cooler) + noctua fan, works a charm.

Will that work on the X58 (socket 1366) motherboards?

looks good but you might want to get the GTX 260 core 216 instead of the 4870 depending the res you play at. also a good case would be the antec twelve hundred or nine hundred.

cheaper and faster
Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum 3GB (3 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
Psu is really excessive wattage
get the gtx260 core 216 instead
the 640gb hdd is slightly faster then the 500gb version
small flaw with that board is that it only has 4 memory slots in comparison to the usual 6 but it won't matter as your not sing it for cad right?

I know the nvidia card is better, but we're tight for cash. If we could slice 100$ off the rest of the parts, I would definitely go for the Nvidia one.

How many watts should the PSU be? (and is PC power and cooling a good company?)

Mid or Full case?

If your tight for cash why are you gettin I7 I would get a Q9450 and a 780 board spending the extra money on graphics as a gaming maching.

I prefer full tower you fit more stuff in, easier to work with aswell. I will probably keep my lian li full tower for the rest of my life maybe with some modding down the road but the same basic case. The antec 900 is a good case if your incdecisive and tight on budget personally can't stand the over flashy gaming cases.

So i7 isn't a huge upgrade over the Core 2 Duo for gaming? It certainly would save money to get one of those and a lga 775 mobo.

is a good graphics card more important than a good processor for a gaming pc?
