My plan at this point is to run 2 7950's, and maybe upgrade to 2 8800's in the future. The reason I had chosen an 8800gs originally was because it was going to become necessary fairly soon, and the site I am planing on purchasing it from was selling it for 500$ canadian.

They may be the same price for a core duo, but how much would it improve my performance in a game such as World of Warcraft, there are people out there that run this game with a AMD 2500+ and a 128mb AGP graphics card on full settings, It seems that having a core duo for mid range gaming would be pointless at this point.

You havent used a core 2 duo yet have you. Its ridiculous how much faster these chips are. I didnt want to believe at first either because im loyal to amd but it really outperforms. You wouldint need to run 2 7950s, one would be enough power because of the cpu. Even my system right now can run call of duty 2 on max everything, but with a conroe you could run the game on max plus encode a movie while burning a dvd and checking your email and chatting with your buddy....you get the point. You can get the 8880 when you need it, and sell the 7950 for about $50 less, but end up saving money by not having to pay as much for the 8880. Go look at the benchmarks, theyll show you what im saying is true.

hmmm... If this C2D is as fast as you say than I could easily buy a socket T motherboard with a single PCI-E slot and upgrade to a single 8800gtx eventually. Where could I find the benchmarks on the C2D's.

This is the updated build, with Core Duo and 7950 , If anyone could look over everything to see if its all compatable with eachother and whatnot.

Is this computer Vista ready?

This may be an extremly noob question, but i've never built a computer before.. Does a DvD-RW play normal CD-ROMS such as installation disks for a game :|

Dont forget to review my comp :::

Lol. Of course it does. Read the specs. And most games are actually dvd rom now.

what are you using the system for?

if it's games, then a better video card will be more important. But still, a CPU can bottleneck the video card if it isn't fast enough.

Personally, I would get the 8800, and try and get an E6300

I had originally selected a 8800gs, but after talking with some of the people on this site it turns out that i cannot afford both a 8800gs and a cpu that can run it. Wouldnt an E6300 be a downgrade from the E6400 I've selected.

Also... Is everything I have selected compatible with eachother.

Its a downgrade from the E6400 but an upgrade from any other processor on the market.

Heres what i would build.

Cpu - $180
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005

Mobo - $83.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128016

Heatsink - $37.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106069

Video Card - $189.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150184

Hard Drive -$160
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136036

Case - $50
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119077

Ram - $109
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231050

Psu - $60
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817152022

Mouse/keyboard - $60
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823126180

Thats $930 before shipping for a killer system, just add an lcd and youre good to go. I didnt choose an sli board, because sli is overated, the performace per dollar ratio is too low, it doesnt really give double the performance, espcially at lower resolutions.
