I'm going to be heading off to college in the fall and I want to upgrade my computer so I can have for atleast a few years in college. Here is my current system.

Evga Geforce 6600 gt Pci express 128mb
Asus P5GDC-V Deluxe LGA motherboard
p4 2.8ghz LGA processor
Antec Lanboy Case
Western Digital 80 gb IDE hard drive
Corsair 1 GB XMS memory

This is what I want to upgrade to

CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - 286 $

Intel Pentium 4 651 Cedar Mill 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor - 277 $

XFX PV-T71F-YDF9 GeForce 7900 GTX (665MHz) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - 529 $

I would just like some input if theres anything I can change or things that I can buy for cheaper but do the same thing.

also I would like to get a new hard drive, can anyone give me recommendations for new SATA Hard drives? I want to go to 350 gb or more if possible. I've heard that the 16mb cache Hard drives don't work with intel processors. Is this true?

Sounds good.

I don't know about XFX... heard their cards are either great or duds, no middle of the road. Stick with eVGA.

You should probably look at getter a better PSU (unless you are running a 500W+ already).

Hope you have good fans in your case... Intel runs hot.

Never heard about the problem with Intel procs and 16mb cache hard drives. Found this WD hard drive that looks like what you might want. I perfer Seagate, but the price difference would make me think twice.

WD Drive

I have a 16mb 250gb WD hd with my P4 system...Go with the hard drive suggested above or this:

I personnally would keep that processor you have, buy a decent heatsink fan like a Big Typhoon or Zalman 9500 and overclock the thing to like 3.2, shouldnt be a problem.

I would just add 2 more 512mbs of ram to go with your current 2x 512, makes more sense and less money...get the exact same ones, thats what I did and it runs great, also better speed, (I believe) with 4x512 memory.

Also, i think you would be quite content with this video card:

IMO thats too much money for that card, when you can have a kickass card for $200 + cheaper..but its up to you.
