i haven't bought anything yet..i plan on using it for a little gaming,school work, internet browsing, and just having a reliable PC around so i wont have to go to friends' houses to use theres.

If you don't want to have to bother with relearning an OS, or just like XP, you could get XP and save yourself an immediate $20 USD. If you decide that, while still using XP, you want to use the vista theme, you could always go and check out the Vista Transformation Pack; However, you will probably end up moving to Vista once it gets SP1.
